EDUCAMPでは冒険プログラムを創る際に、子どもたちの発達段階に応じて考えています。

自分で考えるための「自立」を発達段階に応じ、促せるようなプログラムになることを意識しています。

今回の冬企画を例に考えていくと

主に幼児～低学年を対象とした

「冬の生き物探し」

「はじめての空と宇宙のキャンプ」

子どもたちの中にある興味や関心をもとに、自分で考え自分でやってみる体験を通じて自分の世界を広げていきます。

高学年～中学生を対象とした

「雪国民泊留学」

異文化に触れ、人との出会いを通じて、外の世界と繋がり、自分自身の枠組みを広げることを大切にしていっています。

今回はそんな冒険プログラムを考える際に、子どもたちの発達段階ごとに意識をしていることをまとめてみました。

幼児期に大切にしたいこと

幼児期に大切にしたいことは、「好奇心を大切に、やってみたい！という気持ちを育むこと」です。

子どもたちが面白そう！と思い、自分でもやってみたいと思えるように、じっくりと関われる場が大切になっていきます。

言い換えれば、できるかどうかではなく、子どものやってみようとする気持ちをじっくりと支えてあげられる場です。

そのため、大人の関わりとして意識することは、大人も子どもと一緒になってやってみること、だと感じています。

例えば、生き物探しを1つとっても、最初から大人が見つけてあげるのではなく、子どもと大人が一緒にやってみようとすること。

もしも見つからなかったとしても、大人が一緒に悔しがっていく姿を見せることで、子どもと一緒に共感をしていくことを大切にしていきます。

その結果、失敗に対して自分の気持ちを整え、次に向かう気持ちを養っていくことに繋がります。

そうやって少しずつ自分で考えながら試行錯誤ができるようになっていきます。

小学校低学年で大切にしたいこと

小学校低学年の時期では「自分の力でやってみること」を大切にしています。

実はこの時期って一番周りの大人からの「○○しなさい」「○○しなくてはいけない」という指示が増え始めるんですね。

幼児期までは個性として捉えられていたことが、学校や勉強という視点を通じて、急に周りとの比較をされ始めてしまいます。

その結果、決まったことをこなしていく作業が多くなり、自分でやってみたいという気持ちが少しずつ下がってしまうように感じています。

「できることしかやりたくない」

知らず知らずのうちにこんな気持ちが芽生えてしまいます。

そのため興味と関心をもとに、自分で考える場、自分で決める場を作ること。

そうやって、楽しさの中から小さな失敗ができる環境を作っていきたいと思っています。

小学校高学年で大切にしたいこと

そして高学年。この時期は「外の世界を体感すること」を大切にしています。

思春期をむかえ自我が明確になっていき、親の言葉が入りにくくなっていく時期です。

大人の思惑や建前なんかをかなりキャッチしています。ある意味冷めた目で世の中を見始めます。

知識や情報ではある程度、世の中のことを知っていき、自分を素直に表現することに恥ずかしさも感じていきます。

そうしてイメージの中の自分と、実際の自分とのギャップに苦しんでいくことも出てくるのではないでしょうか。

頭ではわかっている、言葉では正しいことを言える。

でも実際に行動に移せない。

そんな“もどかしさ”みたいな感じでしょうかね。

だからこそこの時期からは、本物の体験、本物の挑戦、本物の出会いを通じて、様々な葛藤体験が重要になっていきます。
